Why World Ferment Day?
Gut health is a cornerstone of all-round health and well-being.
The scientific spotlight on gut microbiota has revealed their vital role in digestion, immunity, metabolism, mental health, and beyond. But here’s the thing: while awareness is growing, not enough of us take the vital step of altering food behaviour and consuming ferments on a regular basis.
That’s why I founded World Ferment Day - to transform theory into practice and empower you to improve your food enjoyment and your health by incorporating fermented foods and drinks like sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir and kombucha (and more!) into your life one way or another. Over time, consuming these foods on a regular basis may give you the best guts you’ve ever had!
World Ferment Day is a celebration of ferments across countries and cultures, a celebration of these amazing foods and drinks that taste delicious, support health, and connect us to the natural world and to each other.

World Ferment Day Ambassadors
World Ferment Day aims to be a truly global celebration of ferments and fermentation.
Fermentation is a mutualistic practice involving humans and microbes and all cultures use fermentation in their cuisine. For World Ferment Day, 2027, we have set up an ambassador programme, selecting wonderfully talented and committed fermenters from around the world whose aim is to spread the fizz of World Ferment Day in their geographical region. To find out more about what World Ferment Day can do for you and what you can do for World Ferment Day, check out the ambassador near you:
